DEMI LOVATO SHARES SOME INSPIRATIONAL READING IN SEVENTEEN

Demi Lovato is continuing her series of stories as a guest blogger for Seventeen with a post about some inspiring literature. During her latest blog post, Lovato wrote about New York Times-bestselling book ‘A Piece of Cake’ by Cupcake Brown (yes, that’s the author’s real name).

“Her story challenged me to look at my own life with new perspective, and made me reflect on how much I have to be thankful for,” Lovato says of the Cupcake Brown memoir. “This book reminds me that life isn’t about the obstacles that stand in your way. It’s about what you do to overcome those obstacles, and how you pick yourself up afterward. That’s what really matters.”

Brown wrote ‘A Piece of Cake’ about her own harrowing life experiences. Brown was orphaned at age 11 when her mother died, and the California native spent her days bouncing between relatives and foster homes. After enduring years of sexual and physical assault, drug use, and prostitution, Brown was able to turn her life around and become a lawyer and, now, critically-acclaimed author.

Lovato, who has had to face her own demons, also writes, “I recently went through a rough time in my own life and I admire Cupcake for sharing her story with the world — she’s truly an inspiration to me, and to millions of other women out there. Remember, when life gets tough, STAY STRONG.”
